Reflecting on the last ten years and the great traditions of Florida Singing Sons, I am grateful for the many moments and experiences we’ve shared. I think about the simple joy on my son’s face when I picked him up from rehearsal, the quiet confidence this organization has instilled in him, and seeing him graduate fully prepared to follow his dreams. What does FSS mean to you and your family? Does it signify making lifelong friendships? Is it the special bond created through our shared passion for music? Choristers in the Apprentice Choir rehearse weekly and perform a wide variety of repertoire, from classical works to choral arrangements of popular and crossover music. In addition to preparing music for performance, singers build a strong foundation in music literacy, including music reading, basic theory, aural skills, vocal technique, and ensemble singing. Apprentice Choir members perform in our Holiday Concert each December and our Spring Pops Concert each May, giving them the chance to apply their skills on stage and share their progress with family and friends. Through hard work, discipline, and consistent study, these choristers have earned the opportunity to perform challenging repertoire at an elite level. Concert Choir members rehearse twice weekly—both as a treble ensemble and in combination with the Second Generation Singers for SATB repertoire. They continue to develop their skills in music theory, sight-singing, vocal production, and ensemble performance, preparing them for a wide range of professional-level opportunities. In addition to being featured in our annual Holiday Concert and Spring Pops Concert, Concert Choir is often invited to perform as the Children’s Chorus in professional productions with Florida Grand Opera, and alongside orchestras such as the New World Symphony. They also appear at community galas, festivals, and other high-profile events throughout the season. As voices mature, so does the music—this ensemble brings power, artistry, and depth to our performances while upholding the high standards of musical excellence and discipline that define our organization. Members continue advanced training in music theory, sight-singing, vocal technique, and ensemble skills. They rehearse weekly and perform challenging SATB repertoire in our annual Holiday Concert and Spring Pops Concert, as well as in collaborations with professional ensembles and at community galas and high-profile events across South Florida. Each summer, Second Generation Singers join the Concert Choir on tour, serving as musical and personal role models to the younger singers while showcasing their talents on a broader stage. A highlight of this ensemble is Jam Session—a student-led musical group directed each year by the Head Chorister. Jam Session gives singers the opportunity to choose, arrange, and perform music that reflects their own voices and creativity. Incorporating vocals, instruments, and original arrangements, it offers a space for leadership, collaboration, and artistic expression in a relaxed, peer-led environment. This ensemble exemplifies our commitment to inclusivity and musical diversity, uniting talented young women from diverse backgrounds in a shared pursuit of choral excellence. Rehearsing alongside the Second Generation Singers, Chorale Soleil members combine forces with their peers to form the full Chorale Soleil ensemble for much of their rehearsals. During part of the rehearsal time, the girls also work separately to focus on repertoire unique to their voices and strengthen their vocal skills. Chorale Soleil performs as a mixed choir as well as in smaller, all-female segments, and joins the Concert Choir for treble repertoire. Their versatility and artistry have earned them frequent invitations to perform as treble voices in professional productions with Florida Grand Opera, symphony orchestras, and other prestigious community events. Members of Chorale Soleil also have the exciting opportunity to join the Concert Choir and Second Generation Singers on summer tours, representing Florida Singing Sons on stages both near and far.
